We offer shows for your Fall Festivals, Kid’s Crusades, Awana Programs, Upward Award Ceremonies, and for Christmas outreach or parties. It is that  magical time of the year again! You may be thinking, how can I make last years Fall Festival, Harvest Festival, or  Trunk or Treat better this year than last year. What can we do to reach out  to our families in our community and get them to our event. Maybe you can add Vertical Kids Ministry to your event.  For a  festival or carnival atmosphere, we can perform close up magic, juggling and  make balloon twisting creations for your guests. We will also bring along  juggling items for your guests to try out and learn. These include juggling  balls, rings, juggling flower sticks, Chinese yo yos and plate  spinning.  Then if you  choose, we can perform a full stage entertainment show that  includes comedy magic, balloon twisting, audience participation, music and other  amazing elements that will keep your audience on the edge of their seats.  Through the dazzling effects and fun, we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and  give an opportunity for your guest to respond to the  gospel.   This is a  great way of reaching out to your community and then being able to follow up  with those who respond. Vertical Kids Ministry Presents: The Greatest Show Not On Earth is a Circus themed program that will take the student into a fantastic world of imagination filled with animal puppets, clowns, Christian illusions, juggling, balloon twisting, costumes, games, stories, scripture verses, singing and The Wordless Book to share what heaven is like; where and when sin came into the world; God’s promise of sending a Savior to forgive and take our sins away; the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus and how to grow in a relationship with Him. Each day of your event we will focus on a color from the Wordless Book. Each one of the colors tells a story. These colors in order are gold, black, red, white and green..   We come in and provide you with a 3 – 5 night Crusade, Vacation Bible School, Kid’s or Family Crusade or Kid’s Camp. Each night our teaching lasts about 1 ½ hours in length. For camps we work with your schedules for day and night. At the beginning of the show, we will make  our assistant appear out of an empty box. We will introduce everyone to our  “little friends” and everyone will listen in as our puppets sing Christmas  songs. Then the kids and parents will be amazed when a drawing of Santa Clause  comes to life and talks to everyone! As the show continues, using lots of  audience participation and humor, we will find The Real Magical Meaning of  Christmas as Earl shares the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the dazzling effects  of magic and illusion. Near the end of the show an invitation will be given for  anyone to find the Real meaning of Christmas in their lives. The  flourishing finish will find Earl magically making snow flakes appear in mid  air. We are scheduling camps, VBS and Kid’s Crusades for this spring and summer. We are looking for opportunities to bring our ministry to your church or kid’s camp. Traveling up and down the east coast this summer, we are already booked in the North Indiana area, North Alabama Area and in the Eastern Texas Area for camps. This Year’s Camps/Kid’s Crusades and VBS’ is called Alien Kids. Kids have always been curious about space and “life on other planets.” This theme capitalizes on that curiosity by comparing the life of a Christian with the life of an alien. 1 Peter 2:11 teaches us that we are “aliens in this world.” To live a life that is out of this world, we must be careful to “stay away from sinful things.” That includes guarding our hearts and minds from all of the sinful influences of the world. We do that by following the “Amazing Alien Diet.” We can continue to live a life that is out of this world by allowing the “Alien Super Power” to give us the ability to “Come In Peace”. When we get in a jam, we can “Phone Home” and God will answer us. In the end, living life as an alien kid is always about taking others “to our leader”, Jesus Christ. It is a fun learning experience with space backgrounds, space and alien decorations, lots of music, scripture learning, story time, magic tricks, juggling, balloon twisting, puppets and lots of audience participation. Our Vision: To reach as many kids and families for Christ as possible. Ten Years and Counting October 2001 is when Vertical Kids Ministry got its start. Ten years ago, we were invited to be the children’s evangelists at a week long city-wide crusade in Plattsburg, NY. One of the directors of Steve Wingfield Ministries invited us to minister at an event that would change our lives and our calling to this day. We were blessed to travel with them for 3 years doing 2-4 city-wide crusades a year. From that, we designed magic shows, picked up on how to juggle and do balloon twisting. We started attending children entertainer’s conferences and learned how to present our shows better. As God continued to work in our lives and move us into positions where we were having more opportunities to minister through Vertical Kids Ministry, 3 years ago, we stepped out in faith again to go full time in our entertainment ministry. God has been faithful, helping us through tough times as the recession hit right after God directed us to trust completely in Him again. Because of your prayers and financial support, we have seen over 2350 kids, teenagers and adults receive Christ through the past ten years. We have seen lives changed, new commitments to Christ and a whole lot of laughs and smiles from the folks we have ministered to. We would love to see God move Vertical Kids Ministry to the next level in being able to minister to more people in the next ten years. To do that, we do need your help. Here are a few items that are in need. Would you pray about giving a special donation to help us get these as soon as possible? Big dream – a small pick up with back seats to be able to pull our ministry trailer – ? Thousands of Miles of Ministry It has been an adventurous year so far. We have traveled several thousands of miles sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. This year’s ministry travels: we have ministered in Virginia; New York; Orlando, Florida; Georgia; North Carolina; South Carolina; Tennessee; Fort Worth, TX; Alabama and in Pennsylvania 7 times. Although it has been a while since we have reported to you by newsletter, I will try to give as much info on how the ministry has been going without making this a book. God Stuff Facts Salvations so far this year – 393 Children who came forward to have the Holy Spirit fill them – 175 Miles Traveled – several thousand Shows performed – 86 so far this year This summer we started our new theme for kid’s camps, VBS’s and kid’s crusades called Alien Kid’s. 1 Peter 2:11 teaches us that we are “aliens in this world.” To live a life that is out of this world, we must be careful to “stay away from sinful things.” We have pictures up on our Facebook page and videos on our You Tube page so please check them out. Great Things That Happened This Year *At Norfolk Wesleyan Church after we gave away a rising magic wand to all of the kids, a boy came up to me and asked, “Can this wand make other things float in the air like my doggie?” *At one of our shows, I asked the kids to name me some sins so I could write them down. One girl said, “Lying”. The next little girl, a preschooler, said “giraffe”. The children’s director told me later why she said giraffe. The little girl asked her what was sin. The director said that sin was the bad things we did. Then the little girl said, “I thought it was an animal because the other girl said lion!” *On the 10th anniversary of September 11 right after the first service at Stroudsburg (PA) Wesleyan Church, I had one of the greatest compliments ever. The church did a 9/11 memorial, we then got up and performed. We had just finished and a lady came up to me and said that she was so grateful for our ministry. She was 4 blocks from the twin towers when they came down and our ministry today helped to take a heaviness away that she had been feeling. It’s amazing how God uses us in His ministry! Thank you to all who pray for us. Lecturing at Kapital Kidvention I have been asked to lecture at Kapital Kidvention in February, 2012. This is a secular children and family entertainer’s conference held in Washington, DC. The topic that I will be teaching is a Christian one. The title is “How to Put Together a Week-Long Event”. In the 90 minute lecture, I will be teaching everyone how we put together a themed kid’s camps, kid’s crusades and VBS’s. Many entertainers know how to put together a one hour show but what I will teach is how to put together a 1 ½ hour a night 5 day show, how to find the theme, how to incorporate the magic tricks, balloon twisting, puppets, juggling or any other creative arts, the teaching, the types of songs, and what we do to have tons of kids involved throughout the week. Pray for me as I put together this lecture and the manual that goes along with it. The Long Report of Vertical Kids Ministry

The Long Report  Greetings! We pray that you are well and that God is blessing you. We want to update you on our ministry and our family during the year of 2010!

Our Mission: To help kids grow up in Christ by using creative arts including magic shows, juggling, balloon twisting and puppets. Our Vision: To reach as many kids and families for Christ as possible.   Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!    When we look at a Christmas tree, numerous things about it remind us of the real meaning of Christmas. The tree is an evergreen, reminding us that we have “eternal life” in Jesus Christ (John 6:40). The shape of the tree always points toward heaven, a reminder that we are “born from above” (John 3:3). The needles on its branches remind us that Jesus was “pierced through for our transgression” (Isa. 53:5). We usually hang decorations and lights on the tree which are reminiscent of Jesus who hung on the cross (made from a tree) for you and me. For you see, Jesus was the light that hung on that tree. Therefore, we know that Jesus is “the light of the world” (John 8:12) and through Him we are to be “the light of the world” (Matt. 5:14). The gifts under the tree remind us that Jesus Christ was the greatest gift ever given to mankind (John 3:16). As I look at our beautiful Christmas tree that my family decorated, it reminds me of the wonderful gifts that God has given this year. Our God Is Amazing    As 2010 began Vertical Kids Ministry set a goal of seeing 500 receive Christ. Still early in December, after completing 114 performances (the most in VKM history) we’ve seen 486 children, teens and adults profess Christ this year!  In the past four years more than 1600 lives have been changed for eternity through Vertical Kids Ministry. During the past nine years, our ministry has seen much growth, many changes, and more and more lives transformed year after year; likewise our needs continue to expand. As we look forward to what God will do through the ministry of Vertical Kids Ministry in 2011, we seek your Prayers and Financial Support.  October 2010     In October of this year we found our ministry in the worst shape financially than what it has been in 3 years. We were $3200 behind due to the lack of show opportunities and the lack of giving.     Many of you responded to the request we sent out and you blessed us. We were able to catch up on most bills. Thank you very much. The Fall and Winter months typically are more challenging than the rest of the year. 2011 Is Going To Be “Out Of This World”   Excited to begin our tenth year of ministry, we expect an “out of this world” (John 18:36) experience for 2011. Our theme is “Alien Kids!” – Dear friends, I urge you, as Aliens and strangers, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul (1 Peter 2:11). It is an exciting learning experience with galactic backgrounds, space and alien decorations, lots of music, scripture learning, story time, magic tricks, juggling, balloon twisting, puppets and plenty of audience participation.  With this new theme, we have new expenses (props, advertising, mailings, transportation, lodging, office supplies and other miscellaneous goods). Furthermore, Vertical Kids Ministry has long anticipated the ability to provide partial or full scholarships to churches and other ministries that might not otherwise afford our services. We would love to see this come to fruition in the months ahead.  We believe that with the financial backing of our Ministry Partners, we will make 2011 our most triumphant year of ministry to date.   The Backbone of The Ministry is You   Returning to Lynchburg, VA just over two years ago from Johnson City, TN, Vertical Kids Ministry has been a full time investment. Focused on establishing the ministry in our area and along the East Coast, we have neglected efforts to attain new monthly ministry support. In that time, monthly giving has declined significantly and our ministry expenses have increased. We are about $1400 a month short of where we need to be. Therefore, we hope to attain 5 new $100 monthly contributors, 6 new donors at $50 a month and 30 new $1 a day partners ($30 a month). These new moneys will enable us to prepare for the coming year of ministry, provide for the needs of our family, cover our business expenses, and allow us to partner with new churches and ministries that may not otherwise afford our services. As 2010 draws to a close and many of you consider end of year giving, please prayerfully consider Vertical Kids Ministry as we, through Christ, expand the Kingdom of God.  Though the magic we share with children and families is really sleight of hand, our deepest desire is to show them the miracle worker, Jesus Christ.  VKM is a 501(c)3 non-profit, making your year end and monthly giving tax deductable.  We ask that you prayerfully consider financially supporting our ministry – with your backing you will share in the ministry of Vertical Kids Ministry that is “not of this world”. Not only is it Christmas but it is also Rian’s Birthday on December 28. He is turning 9 years old! Then on December 31, it is Kimberly’s birthday. She was born at 11:15 PM. Her parents just did get a tax right off that year! Make sure you send her a card or give her a call.     Rian’s Rave This year Rian is in the 4rd grade. As a 9 year old, he enjoyed playing baseball again in the 9-10 year old league. He played tackle football with the Heritage Pioneers. He just seems to be a natural athlete and does well in every sport.   This year Rian started doing magic shows on his own and with us. He has a 13 minute routin thaty he performs. He performed it about 15 times this year. He loves getting paid for it.   Also, he is playing the violin again at school and it actually sounds like music now. He loves Science and History. They are learning about Virginia history this year. He loves everything about the civil war period. He always likes playing computer games, board games and teaching his brother how to do these things.   Chase’s Chatter Chase is in 1st grade this year. He loves school and can remember just about anything. He turns 7 on February 8, 2011.   Chase is our entertainer. He has a great personality. He is very artistic. Even though Rian likes doing magic, Chase is the one that will come up with all types of creative magic tricks that almost makes sense. He catches on really quick to the ones I teach him. He keeps begging to be able to do magic in the our shows. He learned how to snow board this year and now says he wants to learn how to ski. When Chase was 3 and we lived in TN, he played soccer. When we moved to Lynchburg last year he wanted to play again but we could not afford to let him play. However, this year he talked about it all year. When soccer season came around we made sure he got to play. I think we found his sport. He loved it and did pretty well.   Here are Some Pictures From This Year

Our Vision: To reach as many kids and families for Christ as possible.   Dear Earl,  Wow, what a great year we have been having. Our summer was the best ever. As a family, we were able to experience a lot together. We traveled many miles and got to minister to thousands of people. Out of those thousands, we have seen 389 people receive Christ and we have ministered and performed 98 times this year (which is the most ever). Rian got the opportunity to do his 15 minute magic show 7 times this summer at some of the camps and churches where we ministered. At a camp in Pennsylvania, Rian was supposed to do a magic trick called the Stratosphere. Then, I was going to share how it relates to something in the Bible. Right when it was time to do the trick, he informed me that he felt sick and could not do it. Then Chase spoke up very enthusiastically and said, “Daddy, I can do it! Will you let me?” Well, Chase had seen this trick done since he was a baby and if anyone could pull it off then he could. Without a snare he did the trick, patter and all and we kept on ministering! I love the opportunity to be able to minister as a family. Chase has wanted to get involved more doing some of the things Rian has been doing with the ministry. As we were driving to one of our events, he spoke up and said that he wanted to learn to be a ventriloquist. He loves the puppets and picks them up and talks with them. After being on the road for 9 weeks this summer, it was good to get back home. Although, when we did, there was no slowing down. The Friday we got in, we registered the boys for school, shopped for school supplies and took Rian to football practice. Rian had a football game the next day and then they started school on Monday. Rian is playing football with the 9 and 10 year olds for Heritage Pioneers and Chase is playing soccer with Lynchburg Kids Sports League. If we are not traveling to do shows, then we are traveling to take the boys to all of their after school activities. The Lord goes before us and takes care of every need. Even though donations for our ministry have dropped to $600 – $700 a month, God is still providing for us. When we got off the road in August, we only had 2 shows lined up and one of them was more of a donation show. Both were for senior groups (a 50 plus group and a Red Hat Society meeting). I was worried that we would not bring in enough money to pay the bills for the ministry and for our livelihood. Of course, we started praying, sending out direct mail pieces and emails to try to drum up some shows. God showed up and the phone calls started coming in. Special donations have come in and event fees have come in to help us take care of September’s needs. We have been depending on the Lord and his people to provide our needs for 9 years now and He has always been on time. A couple of weeks ago, I was given the privilege to preach at homecoming in a country church at Republican Grove UMC in Nathalie, VA about an hour from Lynchburg. I have not been asked to just preach in about 3 to 4 years. As I was putting the sermon together titled “The Reward”, I could not help but think of magic tricks (I’m sorry, I mean “object lessons”) that would fit perfectly with the sermon. Therefore, in they went and after the service was over, I had most of the congregation come up to me and shared with me how much they loved the sermon and the illustrations.  Then the pastor said the sermon was great but how is he going to be able to follow that! I realize now that anything I talk about I can find a magic trick or balloon twisting sculptor that can make the message more visual. Another great weekend of shows, we were blessed to do, was the last weekend in August at McAdenville Wesleyan Church in North Carolina. We were asked to minister the whole weekend. On Saturday morning, we did an outreach show for the kid’s ministry and I was able to lead one of my cousin’s child to the Lord. Then on Saturday night, we did a show for the teen’s outreach and Sunday morning for the whole church. It has been a couple of years since I have performed at a youth group meeting. I realized that I loved it as much as I do ministering to the kids (maybe even a little more). As you may know, when I was in college, I was called into youth ministry and for the next 20 years that is what I did. The Lord has changed our ministry calling just a little since we first started in youth ministry. But it is still the same passion of wanting to reach as many kids and teens as possible. That night with the teens was great as I was able to do a number of mental tricks with them causing them to think that I really could read their minds. And for an adult to be able to read a teenager’s mind scares them tremendously as you could imagine. After having some fun, we shared the gospel and 2 teens came forward to receive Christ! Vertical Kids Ministry is a 501(c)3 not for profit ministry. As part of our ministry, we are responsible for raising the funds needed to run the outreach of Vertical Kids Ministry. The ministry cannot survive without God’s people giving toward this ministry. We are in desperate need of monthly supporters. Vertical Kids Ministry is the only finances coming into the home. We offer shows for your Fall Festivals, Kid’s Crusades, Awana Programs, Upward Award Ceremonies, and for Christmas outreach or parties.     The Real Magical Meaning of Christamas    This is a 1 – 1 ½ hour show that features a delightful use of tubes, boxes, cards, ropes, chains, balloon twisting, fire, puppets and Christmas music to incorporate fun magical stories about Santa Clause, the North Pole, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer and Santa’s Elves. As the show continues, using lots of audience participation and humor, we will find The Real Magical Meaning of Christmas as Earl shares the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the dazzling effects of magic and illusion. Near the end of the show an invitation will be given for anyone to find the Real meaning of Christmas in their lives. The spectacular evening will end with Earl magically creating snow right in front of everyone’s eyes. There is only a 3-4 week time period to book a Christmas Show. This is my favorite show of the year. I hope you will be able to experience it and use it to reach your kids, teens, church family and your neighborhood.   To view pictures of the Christmas Show then Click Here  Happy Birthday Jesus Show Happy Birthday Jesus Party is a magical party that celebrates Jesus’ birth. This show incorporates a number of comedy magical effects, puppets and juggling. Watch as we magically make a birthday cake for Jesus in a party atmosphere. We will find out who can make it to the “Big Party” which is Heaven. As the show comes to the end, everyone will find out that not only are humans made uniquely but also snow flakes. The flourishing finish will find Earl magically making snow flakes appear in mid air.   This show can be booked anytime during the year.
